Job Description

Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate position will focus on molecular mechanisms by which endogenous, spontaneous DNA damage origniates in human cells, and human proteins that oppose those mechanisms and reduce somatic cell mutation rates. A background in human DNA damage tolerance, inclusing translesion systhesis mechanisms, is desired.

Baylor College of Medicine typically follows similar to the NIH stipulated stipend guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates.

Job Duties

  • Performs wet-bench work, molecular biology of nucleic acids, and human-cell culture.
  • Designs and works on construction of DNA expression constructs, molecular cloning.
  • Works on transfections and creation of stable transductions, assays of mutation rates, and flow cytometry.
  • Analyses data from multiple kinds of assays.
  • Works on DNA sequencing and genomics, and other experimental methods as needed.
  • Reads and reports on relevant literature.
  • Presents results to the group, to collaborators and at conferences to broad audiences.
  • Works on manuscript preparation and reviews papers through to publication.
  • Writes applications for postdoctoral fellowships.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in transfection DNA synthesis biochemistry.
  • Experience in DNA replication, DNA polymerases, and DNA damage responses.
  • Experience in human DNA damage tolerance, including trans lesion synthesis mechanisms, is desired.
