The Cheng Lab and Cleveland Clinic Genome Center seek highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellows for experimental and computational research focused on human complex diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease and brain health. Fellows will join institutionally and federally funded projects and collaborate with investigators across Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. Computational applicants should hold a PhD or MD in bioinformatics, genome science, systems biology, biomedical informatics, computational biology, machine learning, data science, drug discovery, or a related field. Strong computational skills, proficiency in at least one programming language such as R, Python, Perl, C++, or Java, and knowledge of statistics and mathematics are required for computational positions. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required for all candidates. Positions are available immediately. Responsibilities:
- Conduct experimental or computational research to investigate disease mechanisms and identify diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
- Generate or analyze molecular profiling data using functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or related approaches.
- Apply experimental models or computational methods to integrate molecular findings with large-scale patient data.
- Collaborate with physicians, geneticists, and computational and experimental biologists on institutionally and federally funded projects.
Education:
- PhD or MD/PhD required
- MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD
Languages:
- English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status
Work Experience:
- Previous experience in a research or academic setting. Graduate student experience meets this requirement.
- Scientific writing experience
Additional Preferred Qualities:
- For experimental candidates, experience with CRISPR, Prime editing, and functional genomics.
- For experimental candidates, experience with patient-derived iPSC neuronal, microglial, or astrocyte models and brain organoids.
- For computational candidates, experience with machine learning, deep learning, foundation models, and high-performance computing.
- Experience analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, including bulk and single-cell or single-nucleus DNA or RNA sequencing.
- Knowledge of genetics, genomics, cell signaling, gene regulatory networks, and protein-protein interaction networks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
- Ability to distinguish color
- Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment
- Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $31,200.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $95,000.00
