Department SummaryThe Department of Mathematics has 23 tenure system faculty, 20 professional faculty, 50-60 graduate students, and about 150 majors. Our graduate degree offerings include a Ph.D. in Mathematics and M.S. degrees, as well as Math Education options. Undergraduate offerings include B.A. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics, with or without teacher certification. Additional information about the department is available at math.unt.edu.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Mathematics invites applications for the position of Chair, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2027. As chief academic and administrative officer of the unit the Chair provides leadership for all faculty and staff and holds responsibility for all undergraduate and graduate programs in Mathematics. Candidates should have an outstanding record in scholarship and teaching, and an accomplished record of effective leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, an academic record allowing appointment as a Full Professor with tenure, and an established research program.
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants having a record of external funding, administrative experience, a distinguished record of teaching, and demonstrated ability to work with faculty and administrators across the university.
