Job Description

Summary

The Intern Aide (Research) will support research activities within the Texas Children’s Cancer Center Histiocytosis and Lymphoma Program Laboratory. This postgraduate internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to basic translational research techniques in a laboratory setting. The intern will receive training in fundamental laboratory methods, contribute to ongoing research projects, and assist with literature reviews and data organization. The role offers an educational experience focused on building research knowledge, comprehension of key scientific concepts, and practical application of laboratory skills.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.

Job Duties

  • Learn and apply basic translational research techniques under supervision
  • Assist with general laboratory tasks, including tissue processing and tissue culture
  • Perform nucleic acid extraction and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) procedures
  • Support flow cytometry and immunophenotyping activities
  • Assist with laboratory research projects as needed
  • Conduct literature searches related to research studies
  • Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets for data tracking
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations to summarize research findings or activities
  • May assists with special projects/programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school student, undergraduate, or graduate student with an interest in research
  • Interest in laboratory-based or biomedical research
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and scientific concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow laboratory protocols
  • Interest in cancer research or translational science preferred
