Job Description
Summary
The Intern Aide – Research will support ongoing research studies within the Texas Children’s Cancer Center Histiocytosis and Lymphoma Program Lab. This temporary summer position provides hands-on exposure to basic translational research techniques while allowing the intern to contribute to laboratory-based research projects and scientific learning activities. The intern will gain foundational knowledge, build practical laboratory skills, and develop an understanding of key research concepts in a supervised academic research environment.
Job Purpose
Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.
Job Duties
- Learn and apply basic translational research techniques in a laboratory setting
- Assist with general laboratory procedures such as tissue processing and tissue culture
- Perform nucleic acid extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, and immunophenotyping under supervision
- Support laboratory research projects by applying concepts learned during training
- Assist with literature searches related to ongoing research studies
- Create, maintain, and update Excel spreadsheets for research data tracking
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations to support research communication and reporting
- May assists with special projects/programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current high school, undergraduate, or graduate student with an interest in scientific or biomedical research
- Interest in cancer research, laboratory science, or translational research
- Basic familiarity or willingness to learn laboratory techniques
- Comfort using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow laboratory protocols
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based research environment
