CHRISTUS Children's, a world-class 240-bed freestanding children's hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health finalized an agreement partnering with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children's.

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology, seeks an outstanding Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Physician to join our dynamic and growing team at CHRISTUS Children's Hospital in San Antonio. The ideal candidate will be a team player, an excellent clinician, and have excellent organizational and leadership qualities with a growth mindset. They will participate in educational & research programs and help represent the division in the community and nationally.

Divsion Summary

The Division currently has nine physicians and three advanced practice practitioners and includes comprehensive programs in bone marrow transplant, cancer genetics, hematology & oncology, neuro-oncology, and survivorship and is a full member of the Children's Oncology Group. Christus Children's is the only free-standing academic children's hospital in South Texas.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include appointment as the BMT Program Director with a vision for growth. This clinical role will include the provision of comprehensive care to Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) service patients at CHRISTUS Children's of San Antonio in the outpatient and inpatient setting in a tertiary hospital setting. Inpatient attending time includes night and weekend calls and rounds.

This position manages a group of patients who are clinically complex or resource intensive. Management includes assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacological (in a collaborative practice) and non-pharmaceutical treatment for health problems according to established protocols, standards of care, health promotion, and preventive care within a specialized area of practice. Performs physical and psychological assessments, diagnosis and treatment of episodic illnesses in collaboration with physicians; performs diagnostic procedures, oversees the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive therapies, coordinates and communicates all aspects of care with patients/family and the health care team.

Education and supervision of trainees including fellows, residents and advanced practice practitioners. Perform procedures (bone marrow, lumbar puncture) on patients as indicated. Serve as backup and consultant for Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers physicians at our network of community hospitals.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have an MD, DO or MD/PhD degree, be BE/BC in Hematology/Oncology. Have or will obtain a Texas medical license. The rank and appointment will be determined by the candidate's credentials and experience.
