Job Summary
The role of Manager, Internal Communications is responsible for: Develops communications strategies and content to inspire students, faculty and staff to become ambassadors for the Augusta University brand by connecting and engaging campus audiences with the university's mission, strategic initiatives, and educational, research and outreach achievements; Supervises staff responsible for developing and distributing internal communications content; Manages campus communications including weekly newsletters, a digital campus publication/website and stand-alone campus announcements; Handles the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect Augusta University; Leads efforts related to the university's messaging deployed from our internal email system, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and is responsible for training users and maintaining licensing. Provides guidelines and tools to ensure internal communications are aligned and consistent across the university; Maintains and refines internal communications strategy in conjunction with senior leadership on an ongoing basis; Ensures Augusta University initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders; Plans, edits, and writes content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as email communications, digital magazines, and newsletters; Keeps internal stakeholders informed of progress, provides training and answers questions; Drafts messages and scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form; Ensures internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments across campus; Ensures internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages; Responds to feedback from staff and metrics and adjusts communications content accordingly; This role helps ensure campus messages are ADA-compliant; This role works with users throughout campus and ensures quality customer service; This role is responsible for staying informed of internal communications trends and best practices, as well as analyzing our AU results for ongoing improvement.




Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Compliance with Student/Faculty/Staff service standards through the following:
  • Supervise staff responsible for developing and distributing internal communications content. Develop content and oversee copy-editing for internal and external projects and initiatives.
  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.
  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect Augusta University.

Manages campus communications including weekly newsletters, a digital campus publication/website, and standalone campus announcements.
  • Compliance with Customer Service standards.

Co-leads efforts related to the university's campus communications tool, implementation and mainaintence of Saleforce Marketing Cloud and provides guidelines and tools to ensure internal communications are aligned and consistent across the university.
  • Manage the Internal email system (Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
  • Continue to improve the internal email system and maximize efficiencies.
  • Continue analyzing saved searches to be certain they are reaching desired audiences.
  • Establish and maintain an internal communications strategy in conjunction with executive leadership.
  • Ensure Augusta University initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to all students, staff, faculty, alumni and community stakeholders.
  • Plan, edit, and write content for a variety of internal communication mediums, including email communications, newsletters, digital messaging, scripts and articles.
  • Keep internal stakeholders informed of progress and answer questions as they arise.

Work with Digital Effectiveness team, to help secure depth in backup training for the entire DCM team.
  • Ensure all of the comms team is trained in needed software.
  • Define training needed for communications specialists around campus.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and stakeholder support.
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments.
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages.
  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.
  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect Augusta University.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. At least five years of related professional experience and two years in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Experience as a working journalist and with a medical school is preferred, in order to understand the needs of the news media.

Skilled at building relationships and working cross-functionally with different stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong attention to detail.
Experience in writing, editing, internal communications systems.
Must have good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with embedded communications specialists and departments across campus. Must possess the confidence to work with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.
Must have creative ability to develop communication strategies.
Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential.
Understanding of the higher education environment is crucial.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B11
Salary Range: $56,600/annually - $65,200/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
