Primary Purpose of the Organization:The primary mission of the Dr. Henry M. Eldridge Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is to prepare students, especially those from historically underrepresented groups, to enter careers in mathematics, computer science, technology, engineering, and education and to continue their education beyond the undergraduate level.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity to begin in January 2026. Responsibilities of the position include teaching courses for our recently established B.S. in Cybersecurity program, research, student mentoring, and university and community service. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field with at least 18 credit hours of computer science courses at graduate level, preferably with expertise in cybersecurity (ABD will be considered if award of Ph.D. degree can be expected before start of employment).
Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers B.S. degrees in Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Mathematics with approximately 600 majors.

The primary purpose of the position would be to teach undergraduate and graduate computer science and cybersecurity courses offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to its majors and to majors from other departments.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field with at least 18 credit hours of computer science courses at the graduate level and a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor (ABD will be considered if award of Ph.D. degree can be expected before the start of employment).
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching cybersecurity and computer science courses at the undergraduate/graduate and/or community college level.
Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems.
Experience in supervising undergraduate student research.
Cybersecurity research experience and ability to present at academic conferences and to publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.
