Position Overview & Responsibilities
The Aging & Metabolism Research Program, under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Miller, is seeking a Staff Scientist to oversee operations of an established proteomics laboratory. The Staff Scientist will play a central role in the planning, execution, and analysis of proteomics experiments. This individual will work closely with the Miller Lab while also serving as a resource for other investigators at OMRF and collaborating institutions nationwide. They will be responsible for managing the laboratory's day-to-day operations, supporting diverse research projects, and ensuring consistent data quality and instrument performance. The Staff Scientist will also contribute to the scientific mission by mentoring users of the proteomics facility and assisting with manuscripts and grant applications. The target start date is prior to December to ensure continuity with current lab operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with investigators to design and execute quantitative proteomics experiments
- Analyzing samples, processing data, and reporting experimental results
- Developing and leading sample processing strategies across a variety of experimental models, including cultured cells, yeast, flies, mice, rats, and human samples
- Maintaining and performing routine maintenance on multiple LC-MS/MS instruments
- Assisting investigators with the preparation of manuscripts and competitive grant applications
- Training and mentoring new users in proteomics methodologies and instrumentation
- Managing laboratory staff, budgets, and record keeping
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, at the time of the appointment
- At least one year of hands-on experience in proteomic analysis
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Thermo Scientific LC-MS/MS instrumentation
- Experience with coding
- Experience with data science
- Experience with stable isotope analysis
