Summary


Mathematics and Statistics is seeking applications for two or more LEO Lecturer I, non-tenure track appointments which begins Septembers 3, 2024 through December 31, 2024 for the Fall 2024 term. Contractual full-time rate per term is $25,500; term salary is dependent on number of courses taught and course effort percentage, up to 100% appointment for the Fall 2024 term. The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching in person and asynchronous/online modalities for the following:



Mathematics course(s):

MATH 1000: Col Alg for Calc with Studio 33.3% effort

Math 1000 gives students a strong foundation in functions and their behavior by using multiple representations and explicit covariational reasoning to investigate and explore quantities, their relationships, and how these relationships change. Additionally, this course provides students with the algebraic tools necessary to analyze a variety of function types including linear, quadratic, polynomial, power, exponential, and logarithmic functions.


MATH 1001: Col Alg for Calc Studio 8.33% effort

This course provides corequisite support for the companion class MATH 1000. By covering intermediate algebra and precalculus topics in a just-in-time format, students will be better positioned for success in their Math 1000 course. Topics include: number sense and basic operations, proportional reasoning, linear relationships and equations, exponential and radical expressions, quadratic equations, functions, systems of equations and inequalities, and transformations on graphs.



MATH 115: Calculus at 33.3% effort

Calculus is the study of change and accumulation in continuously variable quantities. This course covers limits and continuity, derivatives and their applications, and integrals, with algebraic, exponential, and trigonometric functions and their inverses.



MATH 227: Introduction to Linear Algebra at 25% effort

An introduction to the theory and methods of linear algebra with matrices. Topics include: systems of linear equations, algebra of matrices, matrix factorizations, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, science and engineering applications, and computational methods.



MATH 276: Discrete Math Meth Comptr Engr at 33.3% effort

An introduction to fundamental concepts of discrete mathematics for computer engineering. Topics will be chosen from: set theory, partially ordered sets, lattices, Boolean algebra, semi-groups, rings, graphical representation of algebraic systems, graphs and directed graphs. Applications in various areas of computer engineering will be discussed.


Based on performance and enrollment, Lecturer may be appointed for the Winter 2025 term.

Required Qualifications*
M.S. or M.A. or Ph.D. in Mathematics
At least two years of experience teaching Mathematics at the post-secondary level
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching college-level courses in Mathematics
