Job Description

Summary

The Diagnostic Department MRI Technologist under the direction of radiologist, will be primarily responsible to perform a variety of MRI procedures for diagnostic and evaluation purposes, working independently and exercising sound judgement. The MRI Technologist will work in collaboration with clinical staff to ensure safe and effective patient care, taking corrective action when necessary to maintain such safety and delivering optimal customer service.

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform assigned MRI exams.
  • Interviews and prepares patients scans. This includes but is not limited to assessing patients needs , explaining MRI procedure, positioning patients for optimal imaging results, starting IV's as necessary for testing, monitoring patient safety and comfort, ensuring quality of images and maintaining documentation of all procedures.
  • Communicates with radiologist to obtain appropriate protocols as needed.
  • Calculates dosage, prepares injections, administers contrast media and documents appropriately.
  • Ensures patient data is secured before removing pt. from scanner.
  • Maintains housekeeping of scan protocols.
  • Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
  • Supports positive work environment by actively collaborating and contributing to a dynamic team within a patient-focused atmosphere.
  • Performs equipment quality control (QC) as needed.
  • Assists schedulers / diagnostic front desk team with implanted device clearance by verifying and documenting patient safety information.
  • Checks MRI room daily for adequate stock necessary to facilitate continuous exam flow.
  • Cleans all equipment regularly following manufactures' guidelines.
  • Performs weekly rotation of verification of scheduled patients for order accuracy, implanted device safety concerns , table weight requirements, ect.
  • Participates in rotation of outside CD imaging upload to Baylor/PACS database.
  • Follows departmental safety standards ,practices and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Health Science program.
  • One year MRI experience or graduate of MRI training program with a minimum 500 clinical hours of MRI training.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
