What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about your work? Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues? If so, Organization 03730, Heath and Wellbeing Operations, is currently seeking a motivated Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join their team!

The selected candidate will provide short- and long-term group and individual care, within the scope of practice, through assessment of current health needs, behavioral change counseling, interventions, therapy, referral, and education to optimize both physical and mental health of Sandia National Laboratories employees. In addition to direct employee care, the candidate will participate in program development by assessing program and employee workforce needs and safety, and planning, implementing, and evaluating services or program outcomes.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues including depression, addiction, and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, problems with self-esteem, grief, etc.
  • Assist with job and career concerns, and issues related to mental and emotional health, family, parenting, marital, or other relationship problems
  • Provide consultation to Human Resources (HR) and management regarding the effects of behavioral health and/or substance abuse problems on job performance
  • Conduct Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for groups experiencing traumatic events
  • Refer community mental health or substance abuse treatment resources
  • Protect the privacy of clients and the confidentiality of Electronic Medical Records in accordance with HIPAA and applicable law while managing multiple roles and related ethical issues that arise

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant Counseling field, plus 3 years related experience in counseling
  • An active New Mexico mental health counselor license at the independent practice level (e.g., LPCC, LCSW)
  • The ability to maintain applicable licensures and certifications to practice as required by the state
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant Counseling field, plus 5 years related experience in counseling
  • Knowledge of occupational medicine principles, federal, state and local laws, and programs and practices (including counseling) within the context of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security oversight
  • The ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of assigned programs to all levels of personnel
  • The ability to prepare and present technical and non-technical reports and presentations on health education or behavioral health counseling
  • Knowledge of case management functions and processes for mental or physical health management
  • An Employee Assistance Professional Certification or the ability/willingness to obtain one
  • Experience with electronic health records
  • Experience working with Employee Assistance Program clients or other situations in which multiple clients are served simultaneously (e.g., employees, employers, managers, etc.)

About Our Team:

The Employee Health & Wellbeing Operations center provides a variety of health and wellness related services to employees. Occupational and preventive medicine programs, health management, case management, physical therapy, international travel, acute care, and emergency medical services are all conducted within this Center.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.

Salary Range:

$66,900 - $128,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
