As a Pre-Analytics Processing Technician, you will be in a critical role at Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you will provide accurate results for lab testing as you process specimens. Your primary duties will include: 

Preparing specimens for analysis 

Complying with basic regulations when testing.  

Documenting and performing problem solving functions and issue resolution.  

Communicating needed information to proper supervision.  

Actively performing quality and maintenance of equipment.

In this position, you will be provided with all the training you need to succeed. You will have access to qualify for the Pre-Analytics Processing Technician II and III positions after a full year. Technicians from this position have also been able to move forward to other technical positions.

Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves, sorts, tracks and delivers specimens.
  • Verifies specimen receipt in the lab.
  • Uses tracking software/devices.
  • Complies with safety SOP & regulations.
  • Performs problems solving functions (specimen sample discrepancies).
  • Maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Performs basic clerical functions (answer phone, computer data entry, etc…)
  • Communicates and documents essential information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED required

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision

Work Experience:

  • Six months of patient care experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.
  • Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
