What Your Job Will Be Like:

Passionate about solving complex issues for our nation's security? We are seeking a motivated Solution Architect to join our dynamic team! In this role, you will help design, implement, and maintain national assets that provide novel solutions to national security missions. You will collaborate with teams to architect, develop, test, deploy, and maintain modern networks and data processing infrastructures.

Our team works on sophisticated, real-time decision support systems in both traditional and emerging government-owned cloud-based environments. We are looking for someone with experience in networking, storage, processing platforms, display, virtualization, containers, and DevOps pipelines.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be called upon to:

  • Work on an agile team to architect, design, implement and operate network systems that support real-time mission critical projects using advanced network architectures and techniques in traditional data centers and cloud environments.
  • Design, architect, implement and operate compute systems and storage solutions with unique first-of-a-kind system architectures
  • Design, architect, implement and operate private cloud and commercial cloud systems to support future capabilities and missions
  • Identify and track system deficiencies to recommended and implement creative solutions
  • Ensure all services, platforms, and infrastructure meet team standards related to security, documentation, maintainability, and performance
  • Network with a diverse technical population to identify new opportunities for improving our capabilities and impact

This position requires being onsite at our main facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Some travel may be required.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer or related field plus 10 years relevant work experience, Advanced degree in a computing or related field plus Five (5) years relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in design, configuration, installation, maintenance, and administration in traditional networking infrastructures at both Layer 2 and Layer 3 and at least two of the following:
  • Private cloud environments
  • Public cloud environments
  • Linux Servers
  • Virtualized environments
  • Able to obtain and maintain both a DOE Q and SCI security clearances, which may require polygraph testing.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Five (5) additional years of related experience, in addition to the education and experience requirements above
  • Experience Designing, developing, and analyzing overall architecture of compute systems, including hardware, software, and cloud solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
  • Experience researching, designing, and implementing new technologies to improve current systems.
  • Experience deploying and using Ansible Tower
  • Experience with container environments using tools such as Docker and Podman
  • Experience with private cloud environments using OpenStack or Terraform
  • Experience with AWS or Azure public cloud infrastructures
  • Experience in integration and acceptance testing
  • Experience in problem identification, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting skillsets
  • Proven teaming skills
  • Ability to function in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to learn new technologies, concepts, and processes
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects within appropriate scope and timeframe
  • Existing Security + certification or CISSP
  • Existing AWS Solutions Architect Associate or higher certification
  • Active Q clearance
  • Active SCI clearance

About Our Team:

We design, build, test, analyze, and integrate first-of-a-kind large-scale mission unique system solutions for national security customers. These systems are used daily in the real world to solve national security missions. We work the full lifecycle to architect, procure, deploy, integrate, and maintain advanced high-performance computer systems in on-premise, private cloud, and public cloud environments to process, display, store, and disseminate high throughput sensor data. We also develop cutting edge infrastructure and tools used to enable our R&D software development teams to create complex mission unique capabilities that only exist at Sandia National Laboratories.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
