Job Description

Summary

The Biochemistry department is seeking a Research Technician II to work on projects related to protein structure and function. Qualifications for the position are a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biology. Research experience in molecular biology including PCR and DNA cloning as well as experience in protein expression and purification is a plus.

Job Duties

  • Performs molecular biology work including but not limited to DNA cloning and PCR.  
  • Performs protein purification and analysis including but not limited to protein over-expression, column chromatography, electrophoresis, and enzyme assays. 
  • Works on funded research project. 
  • Works on standard molecular biology and protein purification work.  
  • Maintains notes, and report work to supervisor. 
  • Handles lab management work, that includes but not limited to supply ordering, interaction with Office of Environmental Safety, and Facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biology.
  • Research experience in molecular biology that includes PCR and DNA cloning.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification.
