JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut, Information Technology Services (ITS) Department, is seeking a high-level Microsoft SQL Server database administrator. Under the general supervision of the designated team leader, and in conjunction with other ITS teams, the successful candidate will help design and deliver robust, scalable SQL Server database solutions in a virtualized environment. The candidate will provide capacity planning, installation, migration, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving in support of the University’s database environment. The candidate is expected to be a technical leader with strong communication skills that will allow them to forge and maintain working relationships with other ITS teams as well as business stakeholders across the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Possesses comprehensive knowledge and the ability to design and manage enterprise databases in a large and complex environment.
Identifies and resolves complex system issues in large-scale enterprise applications.
Consults with functional users to resolve problems in information technology services/data administration and system performance.
Leads or assists with technical staff in the design, installation, upgrade, and maintenance of database solutions and tools.
Develops and documents procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze or improve the performance of software systems.
Documents software installs and upgrades made to the software. Work with vendor support teams to identify and resolve issues.
Writes advanced scripts and/or programs to assist with data administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ten years of related experience; OR an Associate’s degree and eight years of related experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree and six years of related experience.
Experience in MS SQL Server database systems configured in an HA (High Availability) setup.
Knowledge of data analytics technologies and systems.
Knowledge of ETL principles and best practices.
Experience with Windows Server OS installation, maintenance, and best practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with data encryption, in all states.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Azure or other cloud services and providing database systems therein.
Knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB preferred.
Knowledge of Linux OS operating systems, specifically RedHat Linux.
Knowledge of intermediate/advanced infrastructure and security topics including networking, firewalls, threat detection, configuration management, vulnerability analysis, and multifactor authentication.
Familiarity with Oracle RAC, ExaData, Dataguard, RMAN, and OEM installation, configuration, optimization, use, and best practices a plus.
Familiarity with CommVault backup services would be beneficial.

This is a full-time position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
