Summary

This candidate will focus their talents on strengthening the Neuroscience Department's communications and outreach strategy to raise the Neuroscience reputation nationally and internationally. This candidate will be involved in expanding the department's social media presence. This candidate will create materials and build connections between our faculty and potential donors, as well as promote the amazing training and research that is being conducted by BCM Neuroscientists. This candidate will actively assist faculty in the preparation of informational and promotional materials needed by our Communications and Development offices to promote Neuroscience at BCM, as well as promoting these accomplishments on social media.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area after an orientation period.

Job Purpose

Employs communications strategies to advance the mission, vision and values of Baylor College of Medicine, including media relations, external and internal communications, web-based and social media strategies, public relations, and community outreach opportunities for the BCM community.

Job Duties

  • Leads philanthropic programs in coordination with Philanthropy to secure key donor relationships to drive new funding and advocate to donors interested in investing in the field of brain science and brain health research.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with current donors and other relevant partners to enhance development and investment opportunities.
  • Designs and implements comprehensive plans for developing key internal and external alliances and consults with the Chairand Administrator concerning department metrics to ensure alignment with department qualitative goals.
  • Oversees the Neuroscience Seminar Series program and develops staffing plans and productivity guidelines for the new personnel according to seminar unit needs.
  • Provides comprehensive writing and editing at all levels of business content, summaries, and proposals, as well as letters of recommendation written for/by faculty members, fellows, and graduate students in the department.
  • Enhances departmental social media accounts (Twitter) aimed to increase the visibility, advertisement, and influence of the department.
  • Develops marketing materials and stories to generate public relationsfor the promotion of individual principal investigators, promotion of Neuroscience research, or for the purposes of donor relations.
  • Works with the Development Office at BCM to build and update the department’s communication strategy to increase engagement with the Department and cultivate existing relationships and steward new donors.
  • Directs and designs the department website content.
  • Liaises with the Office of Communications to promote Department news to BCM, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Research Mission Support group.
  • Directs social media efforts: writes all news, messages, and comments, independently chooses information to be highlighted and promoted, monitors social media and news outlets for information of interest to be shared internally or on the department website, Twitter feed, etc.
  • Advises and influences the department members regarding social media concepts, practices, and approaches to grow the promotion of the Neuroscience Department.
  • Develops concepts for new projects and initiatives as directed by Department Chair and Administrator.
  • Assists in the writing and editing of communications required for faculty development, promotion, and award applications as well as advertisement of these accomplishments when successfully achieved.
  • Provides general readership editing assistance for grant and award application sections as required by the funding agency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
