Summary
The Section of General Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a dedicated Nocturnal Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team at Baylor St. Luke's Hospital in the Medical Center. In collaboration with the experienced nocturnal hospitalists, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care at night.
Job Purpose
Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
- Obtains detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Performs, orders, and interprets diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintains records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provides follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
- Communicates with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
- Provides nighttime (7pm – 7am) cross-coverage for an average of 150-180 patients with in-house physician support available at all times.
- Offers backup support to rapid response nurses for patients experiencing decompensation.
- Contributes to the management of overnight admissions during surge situations.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: Master’s degree in nursing.
- Experience Required: 3 years of experience in inpatient internal medicine or ICU, preferably during night shifts. Prior experience as a night-shift RN preferred.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and Acute Care Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
