Position Information: Directly supervises and inspects the cleaning and maintenance activities of a crew of custodians.

 
Duties:
  • Personnel Supervision: Plans and schedules work assignments with employees. Monitors employees’ arrival and departure from work site.  Maintains time sheets and payroll records. Trains, evaluates,  and orients new employees to ensure adherence to rules and regulations. Confers with management with regard to any performance issues and if necessary, recommends reprimand or termination. May recommend salary increases and/or promotions.
  • Inspect Work & Control Access: Periodically inspects and evaluates condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.  Inspects work performed to ensure department specifications and standards are met. Controls, monitors, and issues facility keys and ensures security is maintained.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Orders and issues supplies and equipment. May perform equipment maintenance. 
  • Custodial: Responds to customer issues about service and assigns personnel to correct the problem.  May clean areas by vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, polishing furniture and fixtures. Responds to custodial emergencies such as spills, wet floors, and bodily fluid spills. Coordinates with departments to ensure cleaning services are provided and completed in a timely manner.
  • Safety: Ensures extra mats are placed in entryways and high pedestrian areas during inclement weather to prevent workplace accidents. Ensures safety procedures are followed when operating equipment and mixing chemicals or solutions. 
  • As Needed: Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED
 
Experience: 8 months of housekeeping or custodial experience, including 6 months supervisory
 
Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver's License 
 
Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of type of materials and equipment used for each job
  • Ability to manage own time and the time of others
  • Ability to supervise
  • Advanced knowledge of the safe operation of equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of mixing chemicals and solutions following safety procedures
  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Uses tools or equipment in a manner requiring competence derived from previous training

Working Conditions:

Physical: Lifting and carrying loads up to 100 lbs. Prolonged standing and walking. Excessive use of arms in a back and forth motion. Excessive stooping and bending.

Environmental: Exposure to odors and to disagreeable tasks or conditions. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.  Occasional exposure to stressful situations.  May require some weekend and or overtime work. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during, weather or other emergencies.
