What You Will Achieve 

You will be part of a dynamic team of experts who form Pfizer’s Environmental, Health & Safety division. Due to the importance of this team for Pfizer’s employees and patients, the organization relies heavily on its team members’ timely actions and efficiency. You will be responsible for activities involved in identifying hazardous workplace conditions and take effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state Occupational Safety and Health standard provisions. You will also participate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and any procedures that may follow a citation. You will assist in the development and implementation of short and long range plans and continuously improve EHS performance.

How You Will Achieve It

Primary functions include improvement of the site’s Construction Safety program, to align with regulatory compliance obligations and conformance with Pfizer Global EHS Standards. Due to the size and complexity of the site, the Sr. EHS Specialist will assist in developing systems to control a variety of workplace hazards, such as work from heights, hot work, and electrical safety using traditional hierarchy of control approaches such as engineering controls, administrative and personal protective equipment.  The role will serve as an SME for implementing hazard control practices within the manufacturing area.

  • Administer site’s construction safety program by assisting with development and implementation of procedures and activities with the area/department owners’ participation in assuring they comply with OSHA regulations and Pfizer standards.
  • Conducts risk assessments of new processes, and capital investments which leads to identification and implementation of controls to assure colleagues’ protection.
  • Provides information, instruction and develops hands-on practical trainings to increase the knowledge of high hazard work at all levels of the site.
  • Utilizes Pfizer processes and tools to assess risks using strategies that align with the ISO and Pfizer standards.
  • Provide guidance to the site emergency response team.
  • Assists with the development of and leading implementation of high hazard program controls and system improvements across the site.
  • Conducts investigations of work conditions for the prevention of construction health hazards, with specific reference to chemical compliance, noise, and harmful physical agents.
  • Aid in the deployment and execution of any corrective and preventative actions related to EHS.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of EHS and complies with company practices / policies in general.
  • Conducts incident investigations and develops recommendations for incident prevention.
  • Implementation of Pfizer systems for contractor management (i.e., Enablon, ISN, Cority, QTS, etc.)
  • Maintain knowledge of the capital project system and participate on project teams.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and inquiries involving environmental, health and safety issues.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • ​Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree with 1+ year of relevant experience OR Associate's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma or Equivalent wtih 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams).
  • Excellent organizational, planning and leadership skills.
  • Ability to successfully influence and engage with multiple levels of the organization and the proven ability to lead cross functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience conducting incident investigations as well as developing and implementing of EHS programs.
  • Experience in working in a Chemical, Petrochemical or Pharmaceutical environment.
  • Experience with identifying risk, and implementing the appropriate controls based off the hierarchy of A CSP or OSHA 30 Hour construction safety certification
  • Experience conducting statistical analysis.
  • Experience in Project Management and Lean Concepts.

  
Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Able to stand or walk for periods of 8 hours or more
  • Sit extended period
  • Must be able to pass a medical exam for use of a self-contained respirator
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities and can perform exceptionally under high stress conditions.
  • Able to meet deadlines, both internally and externally
  • Ability to work on teams

  • Requirement to be on call.
