ROLE SUMMARY
The Digital Manufacturing (DM) Team’s mission is to simplify processes and experiences to drive Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) outcomes. DM is responsible for the digital transformation of all processes across shop floor, quality control, quality assurance, engineering, environment, health, and safety operations. Our programs are led by user experience and design thinking to understand the journeys that our PGS customers are working through daily. DM leads a focus on innovative technology implementation across PGS sites including a digital lean production system, sensors, Industrial Internet of Things, wearables, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality solutions. DM drives efficiencies in end-to-end operations by embedding predictive and prescriptive insights from artificial intelligence into our manufacturing, quality and cross-functional applications. Experience Design & Business Adoption (XD & BA) is a multidisciplinary team that supports Digital PGS solutions by using collaborative methods with a human-centered focus to ensure the best solutions are in the hands of our PGS colleagues.
We are seeking a DesignOps Lead with a background in supporting the effective operation of design teams with the intent of elevating the understanding of design and design processes. This role will not only shape and deliver programs but ensure the continuous improvement of the overall quality of engagements, driving the strategic alignment across functions and teams.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The DesignOps Lead colleague’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Partner closely with XD & BA team leadership to build operational models that require cross-functional collaboration, workflow management, and cross-team coordination to ensure strategic vision is executed
Support XD projects throughout the entire lifecycle as a strategic design leader and guide
Pre-intake: Understand needs and guide business through our processes
Intake: Lead initial conversations, structure engagements, and write proposals with key design team members
Planning: Manage the allocation of colleagues and external resources for delivery
Activation: Facilitate and assist in the kickoff of engagements, when needed
Delivery: Provide guidance on ongoing processes, workflows, and tools
Continuously examine, experiment, and measure improvements to our operational model and processes
Manage the selection, adoption, and management of new design tools including defining relevant organizational processes
Identify collaboration opportunities for duplicative or interdependent projects within a diverse portfolio of programs
Cultivate an inclusive, constructive, and collaborative culture that elevates and empowers team members
Work with a diverse group of designers representing different disciplines, skills, and backgrounds
Support and partner with discipline leads to scope and build project approaches, strategies, and timelines
Assist with recruitment and management of contracted resources
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with at five years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree with three years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree with eight years of relevant experience; OR Ph.D. with 0+ years of experience; OR 10 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent
Related experience supporting team operations and activities
A solid understanding and demonstration of user centric design principles
Ability to collaborate actively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Strong communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to clearly communicate project plans, risks, and identify escalation paths
Enthusiasm, patience, and a solutions-oriented attitude toward any risks and challenges
Comfort with ambiguity and leveraging critical thinking to solve complex problems with short- and long-term impacts
Organized, able to act independently, and able to switch between different projects in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity in emergent technologies and how to apply them to different business challenges
Ability to confidently present work and to accept or provide constructive feedback
Experience utilizing Lean and Agile methodologies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
UX, HFI, Agile, or equivalent certification
Formal design or design strategy training
Pharmaceutical or Manufacturing Industry experience
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel up to 20%
