Job Description

Summary

The McGinley lab at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Student Lab helper for Spring 2023. The primary responsibility for this position will be assisting and conducting auditory experiments involving rodents. The student is expected to dedicate around 10 hours per week for the position duties.

Job Duties

  • Assists and runs all aspects of rodent experiments on a variety of behavioral tasks, including set-up, monitoring, and handling animals during experiments.
  • Maintains various components of experimental rigs.
  • Manages, processes, and oversees storage of experimental data.
  • Performs routine analysis of experimental data to track task performance of rodents.
  • Cares for animals outside of experiments, including feeding and transferring to/from the animal facility

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rodent handling experience is not required but preferred; we will train new personnel on equipment use, software, animal behavior and care.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn multiple platforms, including LabVIEW and Python, to run task logic for behavioral experiments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow members in the lab.
