Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Senior IT Technologist II provides a variety of high-level technical engineering hardware support to faculty, staff and students in the installation, operation, upgrading, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and operating system problems or needs which utilize the Windows and Apple operating system.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs hardware warranty and non-warranty repairs of desktops, notebooks, and printers.
Diagnoses Windows and Apple operating system corruption, analyze options, and resolves by actions such as, but not limited to, running a repair from a recovery console, or reimaging the system.
Provides supervision or functional direction to assigned staff.
Identifies networking problems, analyze options, and resolves by actions such as, but not limited to, installing a new network adapter, reviewing the IP address, or reconfiguring the network setting; verify that port is active.
Diagnoses software and hardware incompatibility, analyze options, and resolves by actions such as, but not limited to, installing new compatible hardware and software.
Diagnoses hardware or software problems in computers connected to or integrated with scientific instruments; collaborate with manufacturer’s representatives to solve the problems through upgraded software, hardware, or modifications to existing system configuration files.
Communicates with chairmen, deans, principal investigators, physicians, research assistants, clerical personnel, students as to the nature of their needs in general or specific terms to affect a timely response and to keep them informed of the job status and progress.
Diagnoses issues relating to corrupt or outdated hardware drivers; locates updated drivers or patches through Internet or other sources to resolve issues.
Diagnoses issues related to viruses; obtains resources (utilities and virus definition upgrades) to resolve the issue; upgrades or reinstalls University approved virus removal programs.
Provides instruction on the proper use, precautions, techniques, and limitations of computer hardware and operating systems to faculty, staff, and students.
Orders ITS standard computers and maintains databases of computer inventory.
Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, IT, MIS, or Computer Engineering. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)



EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years in work related to duties stated above OR a combination of related education and work experience as stated above to equal four (4) years. Ability to assess causes of technical problems and find solutions in computers and peripheral hardware using logical troubleshooting methods; ability to multitask; ability to work with a diverse customer base; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
