Assistant Professor, Management of Information Systems

The George Mason University Information Systems and Operations Management area of the School of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Management of Information Systems (MIS) in Fairfax, Virginia. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary and benefits are competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities include conducting high quality research and teaching Management of Information Systems (MIS) courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. The teaching load for this position is determined according to the School’s workload policy, which specifies an initial load of 3 courses/year for candidates with fresh PhDs and highly productive senior researchers. Additional responsibilities include service to the ISOM area, the School of Business, the University and the profession, such as student mentoring, committee, and interfacing with the business community.

Required Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in MIS or a closely related discipline;
Doctoral candidates must provide clear evidence of expected completion of their degree prior to the start date;
Junior-level candidates will demonstrate strong potential for excellence in research and teaching in the MIS area;
Senior-level candidates will have a proven record of research, and evidence of teaching MIS courses at undergraduate and graduate levels;
Senior-level candidates may be considered for a tenured appointment at Associate or Full-level, subject to school and university approval.

ISOM Area:

With 19 tenure line faculty and 15 term faculty, the ISOM Area is the largest academic area in the School of Business. It is an ambitious and collegial group that highly values excellence in research, teaching, and service. It includes faculty in MIS, Operations Management, and Business Analytics disciplines, with several having multidisciplinary interests. Our faculty conduct managerially relevant research using diverse methodologies. The ISOM Area faculty have published regularly in many of the premier journals including Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge & Data Engineering, Journal of Management Information Systems, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, as well as many other top journals. Our faculty members have won coveted University and Professional Society awards for their research and teaching. Many of our faculty serve on editorial boards of leading journals, and all are active professionally in their respective fields.
