We’re forging a digital-driven future to wholly reimagine how we tackle cancer. Moffitt’s Center for Digital Health (CDH) brings bold ideas into focus and delivers new digital experiences by pairing cutting edge technology with expert cancer care. As one of the world's first cancer centers with a dedicated machine learning department and as one of the 100 Most Wired hospitals in the US, we’re bent on translating lifesaving tools from the computer to the bedside—and beyond.

To make this future a reality, Moffitt’s Center for Digital Health is building out a brand-new Digital Innovation practice with an innovation hub and digital studio. Through partnerships and community engagement, the innovation hub is focused on supporting digital innovation and entrepreneurship. The studio enables digital transformation through the research, design, and development of human-centered digital experiences—for patients, providers, and employees alike. When it comes to beating cancer, we know we can’t depend on technology alone. But together with world-class physicians, scientists, and researchers, we work tirelessly to give every patient the options they deserve to #BeCourageous in the face of cancer.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We’re looking for a collaborative and creative UI/UX Designer to deliver digital products that empower researchers and clinicians to reimagine how we tackle cancer. You will support ambitious efforts of our studio and hub, working closely with the team and external vendors (when necessary) to turn requirements into data-driven, intuitive user experiences.

The UI/UX Designer will ensure that our user is at the center of everything we do—from spinning up mobile applications that support groundbreaking clinical research to customizing point solutions for clinicians. If you dream in wireframes, thrive off of user feedback, and are up for the unique challenges of designing in health care, we want to hear from you.

As part of our team, you will focus on two key areas...

User Research: Relentless in your pursuit of meaningful design, you’re eager to roll up your sleeves and dig deep into user needs, gaps, and opportunities through a myriad of methods.

  • Understand problems and collaborate with key stakeholders through brainstorming exercises, interviews, shadowing/observations, journey mapping, rapid prototyping, and research and usability tests
  • Evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers, mobile developers, clinical researchers, innovators, and others
  • Strengthen and validate concepts with additional research, testing, and feedback
  • Coordinate and conduct usability testing and other research to understand and improve the effectiveness and equitable approach of digital design concepts, websites, and native applications for Moffitt’s diverse consumers and patients
  • Work closely with other Shared Service teams, including the Strategy Office and Process Excellence, to define opportunities and areas for collaboration as part of a comprehensive set of solutions
  • Collaborate with product, metrics, clinical, research, IT, and business teams to continuously identify areas to optimize user experiences and business outcomes

Solution Design: You’ll leverage your strong visual design chops in tandem with thoughtful, problem-solving UX skills to create seamless digital experiences at the frontier of cancer care.

  • Understand user and business goals, needs, and limitations to inform design plans and recommendations
  • Translate problems and requirements into wireframes and mockups that lead to approachable, optimized user experiences—and work with third party vendors to customize solutions as needed
  • Deliver user interface designs – from conceptual sketches to detailed wireframes -- that communicate the structure, layout, information hierarchy, functionality, and behavior of each page/screen
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas effectively across audiences
  • Prototype functionality, content, and interactions to demonstrate and iterate digital design solutions
  • Define and document detailed interactions and behavior specifications to inform development and testing
  • Ensure designs account for not just “happy paths” but also alternatives that ultimately get consumers where they need to go

You are a good fit because you demonstrate…

  • UX Design Mastery: You're a versatile designer with top-notch UX expertise, dedicated to seeing projects through from concept to delivery—advocating for the user at every stage.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration Skills: You seamlessly navigate working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, physicians, operational leaders, and support staff.
  • Keen Attention to Detail: Your mantra: no detail is too small, and every pixel has its place. People know they can count on you to make things look good and run smoothly.
  • Strong Storytelling & Communication Abilities: You can clearly articulate your thoughts, designs, and suggestions—and you have experience presenting to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Design for Diversity: You know that Moffitt’s consumers, patients, staff, providers, and research participants represent a broad set of experiences, needs, and challenges, and you design with intention for this diversity.
  • Understanding of Clinical Research: You have worked with researchers, understand their needs

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a UI/UX designer
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in building consumer applications and/or consumer experiences
  • Education: This role is a professional occupation which requires a bachelor’s degree in information design, interaction design, product design, computer science, or similar field. Note: In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a combination of education (HS/GED), training and certifications (from General Assembly, Google, or equivalent), and work experience totaling 9 years of relevant UI/UX design experience may be considered.
  • Passion and curiosity for improving people’s lives in a healthcare setting through human-centered design
  • Experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps
  • Experience working in a cross-functional and collaborative environment to develop and design user-friendly interfaces and products
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain credibility with leadership and team collaborators alike
  • Strong portfolio featuring projects that demonstrate how you solve problems and delight users
  • Flexible work style and comfort with working in a flat team
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and XD), Sketch, and Figma

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly proficient with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and comfortable digging into the front-end development side of things when necessary
  • Experience designing within the health care industry a plus
  • Experience working with and contributing to design systems
  • Experience working with clinical research teams and a deep understanding of their workflows
