The College of Wooster is seeking a Staff Accountant to be responsible for the reconciliation of all College bank accounts and other routine General Ledger accounts. Completion of recurring analysis and all related month-end and year-end journal entries. Backs up the Cash Receipts function. Provides support to the Assistant Controller for general ledger analysis and accounting. Records recurring and non-recurring transfers among accounts. Significant involvement in month-end and year-end close. Some assistance with annual financial audit. May respond to questions from campus community regarding transactions in their accounts or account balances. Performs research on unique accounting entries or issues, as they arise and assists the Assistant Controller and Senior Financial Analyst with various projects, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for all bank reconciliations.
Complete responsibility for various General Ledger accounts; analysis, research and reconciliation as assigned.
Completes recurring account analysis and records month-end and year-end journal entries.
Assist the Assistant Controller in the monitoring of cash balances.
Back-up for Cash Receipts function.
Responds to departmental requests about transactions within their budgets.
Assists the Assistant Controller and Senior financial Analyst with various research and projects, as assigned.
Assists with routine account analysis.
Assists with preparation for the year-end audited financial statements.
Assist with response to various surveys, if requested..
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required. Degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
1-3 years of financial and accounting experience required.
Not-for-profit experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
Current CPA or working towards certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication and organization skills; proven record of ability to meet deadlines; and availability to work occasional evenings and weekends on special projects.
Experience with Datatel's Colleague software is highly desirable.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
