The Jain Foundation Inc. is a private non-profit with a mission of finding a therapy or cure for Dysferlinopathy, a form of muscular dystrophy that includes the clinical presentations, Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2B/R2 (LGMD2B/R2) and Miyoshi Myopathy type 1. The Jain Foundation solicits, evaluates, manages and awards research contracts to research scientists, CROs, and bio-tech/pharmaceutical companies for projects related to dysferlinopathy, organizes scientific conferences and webinars specifically on this disease, provides diagnostic advice and support to individuals with dysferlinopathy, and supports the planning and recruitment for clinical studies and trials.

Job description:
The Research Program Manager (RPM) will report directly to the Co-Presidents of the Foundation and will work closely with the other Jain Foundation members to develop and supervise a portfolio of complex projects and patient programs related to dysferlinopathy. The RPM will also have the opportunity to interact and work with leading scientists in the dysferlin field and contribute to the strategic direction of the Foundation.

Specific Responsibilities:

- Develop and solicit relevant proposals that meet strategic objectives
- Identify new research avenues and explore areas of strategic interest
- Be a partner and resource to funded scientists and facilitate accomplishment of project objectives
- Contribute to in-depth evaluation of proposals and write summaries
- Aid in monitoring and evaluating the progress of funded projects towards identified milestones
- Provide recommendations for initiating or renewing funding of projects
- Conduct site visits, provide technical guidance, mediate collaborations and develop lab tools
- Prepare project status reports and evaluations
- Keep up to date on relevant research through regular literature review and attending conferences

- PhD or equivalent in biological sciences is required. Knowledge in the muscular dystrophy field desired
- Applicants just completing PhD will be considered; however, 1-3 years of postdoc experience or equivalent preferred.
- Rare disease research experience desired
- Ability to think critically and creatively about research projects and their relevance to human disease
- Exceptional writing and communication skills
- Ability to work in a cooperative, collegial manner with like minded scientists, as part of a small team
- Ability to interact with research scientists at all levels of the career spectrum
- Capacity to take a stand on research directions that are optimal to the goals of the Foundation
- Ability to organize/prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with multiple, competing demands
- Able and willing to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 8% travel)
- Scope of work will require residency or relocation to Seattle, Washington area
